I think it is important to have also a university level training in the library and documentation field. I studied information sciences at the University of Brussels (ULB)(master level) and this kind of diploma is well valued on the employment market. You can not suppress a high level training without being sure that another equivalent training exists somewhere else in the country. Otherwise, it simply is a step back. And on the long term, this level of qualification will be lost. They did something like that in Switzerland a few years ago. They suppressed a postgrad training at the university of Geneva. So today, it's very difficult to find librarians and info specialist with a university degree in library sciences. But for academic libraries and management positions, this is really valuable. I hope they reconsider their decision.
