Red Lokaal 01 Antwerpen in naam van de beeldende kunst!

We are artists who work collaboratively, based in Manchester, UK, a long way from Breda or Antwerp, but our dialogue with and the support of Lokaal 01 has been essential to the development of our practice and our ability to engage with art and artists in Europe. We have exhibited in Lokaal 01’s Antwerp space and visited often, we actively follow the programme.

The support of activities of Lokaal 01 in Breda and Antwerp has always seemed to us an intelligent use of resources and far sighted – two countries sharing a border clearly should share artistic dialogue. Lokaal O1 is there, doing it, whist encouraging artists/curators at different stages in their development.

At the moment in the UK, an appropriate banner at our borders might read – To Hell With Culture - the government in Flanders should have more sense, don’t cut places which enable dialogue, research and production. In a recession long-term thinking is required.
