It's a pitty Facebook just lost one of it's most beautiful pages. In response to the #FreeTheNipple online campaign Facebook already ordered its moderators to consider the context of a photo or image, meaning non-sexual photos including female nipples, such as nursing mothers or women with mastectomies, will be allowed on the website. It would be a step forward if Facebook would expand it's horizon a little further and recognize Lilith's work as an established artist and appreciate the fact that a female nude has a tradition in art and in this context is not valued for its potential to fullfill the more primary of instincts or is offensive. Which is to say it can be stunning, humorous, inspiring art which is the valuable exception to the rule, a joy to watch and great to share. Yes, it's the exact same context in which nobody would question the nudity of Michelangelo's David or Botticelli's Venus. It is not a topic of debate, just highly appreciated culture that deserves appreciation, admiration, a museum. Actually it does make you wonder whether Facebook would be capable of blocking an account based on nude paintings of other established artists.
